SPECIES FROM THE AREA
Pocillopora spp

Colonial coral with a branched growth form covered by warts, distributed throughout the entire Pacific Ocean. The branches can be short to long with subdivisions, and with a cylindrical, irregular or flattened appearance. Colonies can be orange, light brown, or emerald green. It is commonly known as cirio, and is the main coral reef building species in the Pacific of America.

Pavona clavus

Massive colonies with greenish, light gray, brown or violet tones. It is distributed throughout the entire Pacific, and is found in places exposed to strong currents.

Pavona gigantea

Massive or encrusting colonial coral with its tentacles open all day, giving it a "hairy" appearance. Coral colonies can be pinkish coral. It is generally found living on the reef edge. It is distributed throughout the Eastern Tropical Pacific.

Porites lobata

Massive hemispherical colony, with wavy to lobed surface. It is a common species and can be found both in reef lagoons, as well as in the fringing zones and the reef slope. Their colonies reach large sizes of up to 4 m. It is one of the main building species of the Pacific reefs of America. In Costa Rica it is commonly known as Núcura.
